In Venice Course in Medicine And Surgery at the University of Padua. Zaia “Historic date”

VENICE (ITALPRESS) – Landing in Venice, and starting as early as the 2025-2026 academic year, is the Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery program of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Padua. The historic breakthrough in the spread of higher health education in the territory was sanctioned today by the signing of a specific Memorandum of Understanding at the foot of which were the signatures of the President of the Region, Luca Zaia, the Rector of the University of Padua Daniela Mapelli and the General Director of Ulss 3 Serenissima Edgardo Contato. Also present were Padua School of Medicine President Angelo Paolo Dei Tos and Regional Health Councillor Manuela Lanzarin.
The headquarters of the Degree Course, whose first year will be attended by 100 students with a gradual increase to 600 active students by 2030, is the historic SS Giovanni e Paolo Hospital, where three prestigious classrooms, teaching laboratories will be dedicated and where students will be able to carry out their internships immediately. The Course will be held exclusively in English, as is already the case in Padua, from where it will be gradually transferred to Venice.
“We open the year 2025 with a historical novelty,” Zaia said, “because with the Course in Venice we close a large triangle of knowledge in health care, composed of Padua, Treviso and Venice, and our historical propensity for internationality grows, combined with the worldwide prestige of the health school in Veneto, which is based on the excellence of the Universities of Padua and Verona. Not coincidentally, 75 percent of the students training in Venice will be from the European Union, including Italians, and the remaining 25 percent from outside the EU. Moreover, the English language is an added value that is now indispensable, because all over the world English is the language of science. With this new training offer on Venice,” Zaia added, “we also count on being able to increase the pool from which we can draw new young doctors. The current difficulties are well known,” he reported, “to the point that we have announced 112 competitions for 814 positions and have managed to hire only 197 doctors.
All those who spoke emphasized the great concreteness and collaboration that has allowed us to team up throughout the not so easy path for the realization of the move from Padua to Venice of the Course in Medicine & Surgery, which, once it is in place, will also contribute to the creation of a new cenacle of young residents and give an answer to the depopulation trend of the lagoon city.
The related resolution of the region highlights the strategic importance of the project for the Veneto region, which aims to enhance the attractiveness of the area and ensure a concrete response to the growing need for qualified physicians. In particular, the resolution emphasizes: the need for an innovative approach in the training of future physicians; the importance of integrating training, research and clinical practice within the Regional Health Service; and the relevance of Venice as an international and cultural venue to welcome students from all over the world.
The strategic objectives of the Project are, in brief, to strengthen the regional training system with academic paths of excellence; to strengthen the international dimension of the University of Padua through an English-language course in Venice; to stimulate didactic innovation with the use of advanced technologies for clinical simulation and internship; and to ensure the sustainability of the project through shared planning among the parties involved.
