MELBOURNE (AUSTRALIA) (ITALPRESS) – Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori flew to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the first Slam of the season underway on the concrete courts of Melbourne. The Azzurri got the better of Spaniards Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar, defeated by a score of 6-3, 7-6(6). In the second set they recovered a break disadvantage (0-3), missed four more total chances on 4-4 and 5-5, then in the tie-break were one point away from having to play it all out in the third set. Martinez, however, wasted set point with an inaccurate volley. The same cannot be said to define Vavassori’s net close on match point. In the quarters, Bolelli and Vavassori will meet Portugal’s Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral for the first time.
