ROME (ITALPRESS) – The death toll rises to 24 from the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles County.
As the firefighters’ struggle to put out the fires continues unabated, the search for the missing continues. More than 100 thousand people are still homeless and more than 10 thousand structures destroyed. About 180 thousand residents are under evacuation orders.
Firefighters have stopped the spread of the Palisades fire, which was spreading to exclusive Brentwood and the San Fernando Valley, but weather conditions that are set to worsen are a concern, especially with warnings related to strong wind gusts that could blow up to 70 miles per hour. Law enforcement officials are manning evacuated areas to avert the risk of looting: several people have been arrested including a burglar who dressed as a firefighter to steal from homes. The night curfew in deserted areas has been extended and additional resources have been requested from the National Guard. Meanwhile, the death toll rises. Eight bodies were found in the Palisades Fire area and 16 in the Eaton Fire area. There is a possibility that the forecast center will issue “extremely critical” fire weather conditions, the highest level, for parts of Ventura County tomorrow.
