Toyota introduces the new Urban Cruiser at the Brussels Motor Show

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – The new Toyota Urban Cruiser makes its first public appearance in Europe at the Brussels Auto Show. The latest addition to the three-ellipse brand’s growing range of battery-electric models is a compact SUV that will provide the brand with a consistent presence in one of the most competitive and fast-growing segments of the European market. The Urban Cruiser features a distinctive design influenced by the “Urban Tech” styling direction that expresses its qualities as an authentic SUV. The front styling features the “hammer head” look and slim headlights, hallmarks of a new generation of Toyota models, while the strong rear pillars joined by a wraparound light bar project strength and stability. In terms of size, it is slightly larger than the Yaris Cross with a reduced turning radius of 5.2 m to allow nimble maneuvering on urban roads. Inside, thanks to a long wheelbase of 2,700 mm and a flexible, sliding rear seat arrangement, interior space is remarkably generous: rear-seat legroom can be expanded to rival that of a D-segment model. The cabin design echoes distinctive SUV traits with a lowered horizontal dashboard and a raised seating position that offers a good all-around view from the steering wheel. The cabin environment can be enhanced with a lighting system offering 12 different color settings. The Urban Cruiser is built on a new rugged but lightweight platform dedicated to battery electric vehicles. Its design does not require crossbars in the floor getting more space for the battery without compromising cabin space. Customers can choose from propulsion and transmission options that best suit their needs. The Urban Cruiser will be available with two battery pack options, which use durable yet economical lithium-iron phosphate technology. A 49 kWh battery pack with an output of 106 kW / 144 DIN hp will be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, while a 61 kWh battery pack will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive Urban Cruiser versions. In FWD format, the 61 kWh battery will produce 128 kW / 174 hp DIN; in the AWD model, output is slightly higher at 135 kW / 184 hp DIN. The AWD model uses an additional 48 kW motor on the rear axle and features Downhill Assist Control, as well as Trail and Snow modes for extra assistance in slippery conditions. The Urban Cruiser will be equipped with a wide range of advanced active safety and driver assistance features as standard, including pre-collision, adaptive cruise control and lane warning/maintenance systems. A fully digital user experience includes a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.1-inch multimedia display, seamlessly integrated into the dashboard. Easy smartphone integration will be provided for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.Premium equipment features will be available, including a 360-degree camera, JBL audio system, and electric driver’s seat adjustment and sunroof.
