WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – From the Roosevelt Room of the White House, President Donald Trump announced a massive private sector investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States. “A new American company will invest at least $500 billion in infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence in the United States, creating more than 100,000 jobs almost immediately,” Trump said, “This monumental undertaking is a resounding statement of confidence in America’s potential under my presidency.
Trump called artificial intelligence the key to America’s future, stressing the need to stand up to the competition, “China is a competitor, as are other countries, and so new investments are needed to bring in manufacturing very easily to generate power,” Trump continued, “New infrastructure must be built to power the next generation of advances in artificial intelligence. This will include building colossal data centers, the extremely massive facilities. This is a very important thing for me. 500 billion dollars in the Stargate project that will represent something very special and could be the largest investment in the industry.”
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman showed up at the White House on Tuesday afternoon for talks with Trump. They discussed an AI datacenter project called Stargate, which also includes a partnership with Oracle and SoftBank. For several months now, AI leaders had been signaling that more investment in data centers, namely chips, electricity and water resources, is needed to power the industry. As it stands, Oracle is among the largest data center operators in the United States, while SoftBank has the resources to finance the expansion of AI infrastructure.
Altman, who attended Trump’s inauguration in the Capitol Rotunda, had urged U.S. officials several times in the past to help build this infrastructure to ensure that the United States remains ahead of China in artificial intelligence, which now involves everything from military capabilities to the economy.
