Roma on penalty kick and comeback, 2-1 win in Udine

UDINE (ITALPRESS) – Roma passes 2-1 in a comeback at the Bluenergy Stadium against Udinese, in the match valid for the 22nd day of the 2024/2025 Serie A championship: penalties converted by Lorenzo Pellegrini and Artem Dovbyk decide. The match immediately starts at a good pace, but after just seven minutes coach Kosta Runjaic is forced to make the first change following Touré’s injury: in his place Kabasele enters. On 14′ the Giallorossi, who fielded new signing Rensch from 1′, carved out the first chance on goal with Mancini who, on an assist from Pellegrini, went for the shot but a rebound with Bijol favored Sava’s exit. Udinese responded in 22′ by creating a double chance: first Kabasele failed to direct a header toward goal, then Bijol missed the winning deflection in front of Svilar. Four minutes later Rensch lets off a venomous left-footer, on which Sava’s intervention is decisive. On 27′ a melee arises in the HCL penalty area and N’Dicka tries to take advantage of it, but does not frame the goal mirror. On the half-hour mark Angelino crosses for Pisilli, who hits a header but sends it wide. On 34′ comes yet another framing by a Giallorossi player, but again N’Dicka misses the target. The Friulians, after having risked at several junctures, found the lead goal at 38′ with Lorenzo Lucca who, on a free kick taken by Lovric, unloaded a bolide under the crossbar. The goal is validated after a lengthy Var check, which leads to the allocation of 6′ of recovery time. During this time two goals are cancelled for offside: first Lucca’s split touch and then Dovbyk’s great goal. We go, therefore, to rest on the 1-0 scoreline. In the second half, Roma immediately won a penalty kick for a hand foul by Kabasele: Lorenzo Pellegrini went to the penalty spot in the 50th minute, clearing Sava and signing the 1-1. Ranieri’s men try to take advantage of the positive moment and at 64′ they get another penalty for a foul by Sava against the newly-entered El Shaarawy. This time it is Artem Dovbyk who is in charge of the strike: the Ukrainian makes no mistake and overturns the score. Runjaic tries to reorganize his team’s ideas through substitutions, but the Capitolini seem able to administer their lead. Clear scoring chances are missing on both sides, but Udinese attempts a final assault by putting pressure on the opponent’s rearguard. Despite the Friulani’s forcing, it was Ranieri’s boys who came close to scoring in the recovery with a double chance under goal by Shomurodov. The result, however, did not change: Roma won 2-1 and brought home a precious away victory that had been missing since last April 25, precisely against the Bianconeri. – Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
