Brignone third in Garmisch, blue festival in superG

GARMISCH (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – Federica Brignone is still on the podium in Garmisch Partenkirchen: the Italian skier is third in the super-G that completes the program of the Bavarian stage behind Swiss Lara Gut Behrami, winner in 1’14″91, and Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, 0″35 off. Behind them, the Valdostan star climbs the podium for the eighth time in the season, with a third place at 0″38 from the Ticino racer that allows her to bring to 77 the total haul of podiums in the World Cup, twenty-three of which she collected just in super-G. On the heels of her double victory in the downhill ahead of Sofia Goggia, Brignone is still the absolute star, with a clean and convincing performance in a race delayed by the rain and snow that fell long over Garmisch. The third place allows the 34-year-old Italian to close the month of January with three victories and as many third places, results that keep her the leader in the overall standings. Brignone smiles, but so does the entire Italian team, which places no less than four athletes among the top six, with Sofia Goggia fourth at the foot of the podium at 0″49 from Gut, tailed by Laura Pirovano, fifth at 0″77, and Marta Bassino, sixth arm in arm with U.S. Keely Cashman at 1″03. And just outside the top ten, Elena Curtoni is 11th at 1″22, with Nicol Delago good for 18th at 2″13 and Asja Zenere finishing 25th at 2″33. Further behind, however, are Roberta Melesi who pays 3″05 and Nadia Delago (+3″28); Vicky Bernardi did not finish the race.As mentioned, Brignone leads the overall standings with 799 points and a seventy-point margin over Gut; third is Camille Rast with 562 tailed by Sofia Goggia (551); Brignone (310) and Goggia (246) chase Gut (385) in the specialty standings instead. The Courchevel slalom is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30, then the wait will open toward the World Championships in Saalbach, Austria.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
