ROME (ITALPRESS) – Educational workshops, interactive lessons for young children, exhibitions, study days, performances, and meetings with scientists. It’s all set for the National Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Disciplines Week. From tomorrow, Feb. 4, and until next Tuesday, Feb. 11, there are many initiatives and events promoted by Research Institutions and Universities throughout Italy with the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) to raise awareness and encourage the younger generation to approach the study of these disciplines. The Week is in its second year and was established by Law 187/2023. At the conclusion of the Week, on February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science will be celebrated. “The first incentive is to know,” explains the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. “Italy needs highly specialized figures to face all the challenges of innovation. And to promote a university path in STEM, it is good for girls and boys to know about opportunities and prospects. This is why the Ministry has put in place several initiatives on orientation, and this week entirely dedicated to STEM is among them. Our goals are different: we want to bring out the vocations and therefore the talents of everyone, to help boys make the best choices for life, to pursue a gender balance, and to counter dropouts in studies. “On the occasion of #stemweek, the Ministry of University and Research launches the social campaign #ChooseSTEM. The campaign is aimed particularly at all female students and is promoted with the collaboration of Research Institutions. Through the MUR’s social channels, some of the events organized throughout Italy by the Research Institutions themselves for these seven days of orientation and promotion will also be relaunched. The calendar of events can be consulted through the MUR’s web portal, on the dedicated page.
