BERGAMO (ITALPRESS) – Bologna triumphed 1-0 against Atalanta, Castro’s goal at 35′ of the second half being decisive, eliminating the Bergamaschi and sending the Rossoblù into the semifinals. The path of Gian Piero Gasperini’s men comes to a halt after their victory against Cesena; the Italian team will instead face the winner of Juventus-Empoli, a match scheduled for Feb. 26. The 4-2-3-1 thought up by Vincenzo Italiano created some headaches for the hosts, who struggled to find the usual patterns of play. The first real chance was created at 7′ by Ederson, the Brazilian dished a through ball for De Ketelaere, the Belgian counted the rebounds before kicking, but the conclusion was deflected into the corner by Skorupski. On 19′ came the response of the Felsinians, Ndoye’s shot finished on the bottom without bothering Rui Patricio. The Nerazzurri relied more on the initiative of individuals, at 42′ Hien – after a personal action – tried to surprise everyone with an inaccurate shot from the limit. In the resumption the inertia did not change, the hosts tried to exploit the outside lanes, the guests waited trying to take advantage of the restarts: after six minutes Djimsiti attempted the breakthrough, Bellanova’s shot was once again intercepted by Skorupski.
On the quarter-hour of the second half, Pobega went close to scoring the winning goal, the intervention of Rui Patricio, on the pitch in place of the injured Carnesecchi (likely to recover in the match against Club Bruges in the Champions League) being decisive. Gasperini immediately sent on Maldini and Posch, the two newcomers in the winter market: on 29′ the former Monza man, alone in front of Skorupski, failed to materialize Brescianini’s assist. Ten minutes from the end Bologna found the lead on a free kick, perfect Lykogiannis’ cross, Castro anticipated Hien scoring the 1-0 with a great header.
