SEPANG (MALAYSIA) (ITALPRESS) – Fabio Quartararo in front of everyone, but also many crashes with reigning world champion Jorge Martin having to go under the knife. The curtain officially rises on MotoGp 2025 with the first of three days of testing in Sepang, Malaysia. El Diablo, who had already impressed well during Sunday’s shakedown, signs on his Yamaha the best time of the opening day, turning in 1’57″555 at the end of the day. Quartararo puts just 51 thousandths behind the official Ducati of Marc Marquez, followed by the two Gresini-branded Desmosedici of Alex Marquez (+0″183) and Fermin Aldeguer (+0″480). Fifth and seventh times for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 team Ducatis entrusted to Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio, separated by Joan Mir’s Honda. Unlucky, however, the 26-year-old Roman rider, who suffered a fractured left collarbone in the crash at Turn 5 and will return to Italy for surgery as early as tonight. It ended worse for Jorge Martin, making his season debut on the Aprilia: the Spaniard also ran into a highside at Turn 2. Later transported to the hospital, he was diagnosed with several fractures: one in his right hand and some in his left foot. Negative CT and MRI scans (he had hit his head in the fall) but his three-day Sepang race comes to an early end. Martin will remain under observation for the next 24 hours, then the return to Spain to undergo surgery, expected within this week. Rounding out the medical bulletin is a fractured left hand for Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP). Returning to the timesheets, the Top Ten is completed by the Yamahas of Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, with Johann Zarco’s LCR team Honda in the middle. Just outside the top 10 are the Ktms of Brad Binder and Maverick Vinales, almost a second behind Quartararo, lagging behind Pecco Bagnaia who, with his Ducati, does not go beyond the 17th time (+1″392), preceding Marco Bezzecchi on the other official Aprilia. The premier class will be back on track tomorrow and Friday.- photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
