ROME (ITALPRESS) – President Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. This was revealed by Trump himself told the New York Post in an exclusive, on-the-fly interview aboard Air Force One. “Best not to say,” he said when asked how many times the two leaders had spoken to each other. Trump said he was convinced that Putin “cares” about the hundreds of thousands who have fallen on the battlefield. “All those dead. Young people, beautiful people. They are like your children, two million of them dead for no reason.” The US president exclaimed. The three-year war “would never have happened” if he became president in 2022, he added. While speaking to the New York Post correspondent, Trump, addressing National Security Adviser Mike Waltz , who joined him in his study aboard Air Force One, repeated, “Let’s get these meetings going. People are dying every day. Young fine soldiers are killed. Young men, like my sons. On both sides. All over the battlefield.” On Iran, Trump told the NYPost, “I would like to see a deal made with Iran on non-nuclear. I would rather that than bombing the hell out of it… They don’t want to die. Nobody wants to die. If we made the deal, Israel would not bomb them.” But he would not reveal the details of any negotiations with Iran, and when asked what he would offer Iran for a nuclear deal Trump replied verbatim, “I can’t say because it’s too bad. I’m not going to bomb them.” Regarding Ukraine next week Vice President Vance will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference. Trump has said he wants to reach a $500 million deal with Zelensky to access rare earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in an eventual peace agreement.(ITALPRESS).
