ROME (ITALPRESS) – Daniela Fumarola is the new general secretary of the CISL. The General Council elected her unanimously. She succeeds Luigi Sbarra, who resigned due to age limit after 4 years in office. A sign of continuity on the part of the Confederation for workers, fully photographed by the 188 votes out of as many valid ballots, with only two null and one last blank. “Around Daniela Fumarola’s name there was a total and unanimous convergence,” said former Secretary Sbarra, confirming the shared confidence that Fumarola’s was the “ideal figure to lead the path to come. Knowing each other for a long time, I appreciated better than anyone your competence, your ability to hold together strategic perspectives and pragmatism. A difficult, totalizing and many times frustrating role, which I am sure you will fill by putting your heart and passion into this project,” he added. Lots of applause and widespread smiles, before and after the ratification of the vote. Fumarola, during her speech, then dwelt on several focal points: “This is a really important moment in my life, I feel an extremely great responsibility and honor in receiving this role. It is a commitment that I want to make right away, to ensure that every component of this CISL gives its best, every day. We have faced many obstacles, always moving forward with the certainty of Secretary Sbarra’s presence, following a course and reaching it with courage, taking on great responsibilities and making difficult decisions. Therefore, we must continue along the furrow we have traced, making it fertile and constantly changing starting from ourselves, with an exhausting yet compelling refinement in embracing the vectors of change,” he stressed. The line of continuity thus appears clear, including in support for the Mezzogiorno and relations with CGIL and UIL, which have been at the center of political debate in recent weeks. “The Mezzogiorno is already at the center of the Cisl’s activities, because we think that a strong Mezzogiorno is fundamental for Italy and for Europe. The South’s latest achievements are positive, but we think they need to be further strengthened, bringing to fruition every NRP investment because the 2026 deadline is just around the corner. Relations with Cgil and Uil? We are here, without any prejudice to our colleagues,” the newly appointed secretary confirmed. However, we would like to get together on content and methods, evaluating proposals as they are made to us. We do not have an ideological style, but one of autonomy vis-à-vis any political party. Where we find ourselves on common ground welcome, otherwise we will go our own way, because the choices made so far under Sbarra’s leadership have brought us concrete results.” A coda, necessary in Fumarola’s view, also on the issue of tax evasion, because of paramount choices to be made regarding tax bills and their issuance. “The fight against evasion will have to be concrete, because by proposing shortcuts we only hurt those who pay taxes. We have to restore those ninety billion a year of evasion, by doing more controls and issuing more tax bills to make those who do not pay taxes pay them.”-(ITALPRESS).-Photo: xi6/Italpress-
