GENEVA (SWITZERLAND) (ITALPRESS) – The Kingdom of Morocco was elected as chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council (CCCDU) in elections held in Geneva at the opening of the 33rd session of the CCCDU in the person of Nadia Bernoussi. For Moroccan authorities, this election “represents a new testimony to the credibility Morocco enjoys within the international community for its considerable efforts in the promotion, protection and consolidation of human rights, both nationally and internationally.” Morocco previously held the chairmanship of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in 2024.Bernoussi’s election “is a recognition of her commitment and work within this Committee, of which she has been a member since 2020. She was re-elected for a second term in 2023 for the period 2023-2026. “Bernoussi, who is also a member of the Venice Commission, is an eminent figure in the field of human rights, recognized both nationally and internationally.The CCCDU is a subsidiary body of the Human Rights Council, composed of 18 experts, with a mandate to serve as a think tank on the promotion and protection of all human rights.During the current session, which will run until the 21st of this month, the CCCDU will consider requests submitted to it pursuant to UNHRC resolutions, relating in particular to gender mainstreaming, the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order, and consideration of issues relating to persons with disabilities.
