ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I share with you good news about the government’s work in combating tax evasion. Minister Giorgetti and Deputy Minister Leo presented the latest data today: it emerges that the amount recovered in 2024 reached a record 33.4 billion euros, a good 8.2 billion more than in 2022, when this government had not yet taken office. A sum never reached before in the history of our nation, results achieved thanks to the excellent work of the Internal Revenue Service but also thanks to specific regulations that were introduced by this Government.” This was said in a video on social media by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. “They accuse us of helping tax evaders, of loosening the meshes of the tax authorities, even of hiding imaginary amnesties. These are all lies,” Meloni stressed. “Our vision is clear: there is no room for those who want to be smart, but those who are honest and perhaps are in difficulty deserve to be put in a position to pay what they owe and deserve to be helped by the state. Families and businesses have understood this well, as shown by the trend of spontaneous payments, which have increased by about 70 billion in just two years. With this same approach we have approved the tax reform that Italy has been waiting for half a century and that intends to build a fairer and more modern tax system.” “We want a state that no longer oppresses families and businesses but helps society to grow and prosper, that asks the right amount for the services it provides, that uses citizens’ money with the same criterion that the good father of a family would use, without wasting those precious resources,” the Prime Minister further explained. “This is the commitment we have made to citizens and that we intend to fulfill, point by point, with courage and determination.
