ROME (ITALPRESS) – Top sports as a positive example to raise awareness of the issue of physical and verbal violence. At the ‘Esperienza Europa-David Sassoli’ exhibition space, the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation took the lead in a meeting with young people dedicated to the “European Day Against Harassment.” “Sport has millions of practitioners, there are certainly bad apples, as happens in all environments, but we must have the courage to fight them and bring those positive examples that can contaminate and involve,” said FISE President Marco Di Paola. “Athletes are champions, examples, vehicles that communicate values. Top sport is important to set an example to a huge supply chain,” he added. Doing the honors was Antonella Sberna, vice-president of the European Parliament: “This is an important day, which starts from afar and must promote education and prevention,” her words. In attendance was Claudia Giordani, vice-president of CONI, who stressed “the importance of this opportunity to deepen the understanding of a very significant, very heartfelt issue, a priority for what concerns the world of sports.”
“With less than a year to go before the Olympic and Paralympic Games that we will be hosting in our country,” he added, “I would like to emphasize how the values of sport and the Olympic spirit urge us to try to make the sports environment a safe reality of well-being and prevention. Giusy Versace, a senator and Paralympic athlete, also knows this well: “When a Day of this kind is established, it is because of a past of suffering that has led to turning the spotlight on issues that were not considered before. But we must always keep the spotlight on.” Just as Federica Cappelletti, president of the Professional Women’s Serie A Division, aims to do, who focused on the issue of verbal violence that “comes, hurts, belittles and does not give a sense of the professionalism of women approaching work in sports. All together we can team up and get results,” Cappelletti concluded.
