WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – On the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine, President Donald Trump received French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House. According to the tycoon, the war in Ukraine “is nearing its conclusion.” According to Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may soon travel to the United States to sign an agreement. “It looks like we are getting very close,” Trump told reporters present at the bilateral with Macron. In the morning, Trump and Macron took part in a video conference with other G7 leaders to discuss the war. The talks come at a time of deep uncertainty about the future of transatlantic relations, with Trump transforming U.S. foreign policy, ignoring European leadership in an effort to quickly end the war in Ukraine. Ukraine is also seeking future security guarantees as part of any agreement. Trump, however, has not said whether the emerging agreement will include American security guarantees. “Europe will make sure that nothing happens,” Trump said. “We need to have guarantees for a solid peace,” Macron affirmed at the start of the meeting. “This is a very important moment for Europe as well.” Trump also reiterated his belief that Putin would accept the presence of European peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of a possible agreement to end Russia’s war there. “Yes, he will accept it,” Trump said. “I asked him that question, and Putin is not looking for another war. On Thursday Trump will meet with another important European leader, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.(ITALPRESS).
