Skiing, Brignone “Me flag bearer at Milan-Cortina? I miss an emotion like that.”

ROME(ITALPRESS) – “It was the icing on the cake of the weekend. It was three very positive races, in the two downhills I came very close to the podium on a track where I thought I could do quite well, but I considered the podium something special. Yesterday on the other hand was tough, we all made mistakes, I came down shaking my head. At the end of the race I let out a scream of frustration, because some passes I wanted to do a certain way and I hadn’t done my top. But the superG yesterday had such a complex course, with very difficult bumps, that no one was able to make the perfect run. I thought I threw the race away and instead it was difficult for everyone.” So to the microphones of ‘Radio Anch’io Sport’ on Rai Radio 1, ski champion Federica Brignone, who is increasingly leading the overall standings after her triumph in yesterday’s SuperG in Kvitfjell, Norway. She now has a 251-point lead over Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami.

“I’m a sports fan, on soccer I’ve always been a milanista, like my whole family,” confessed the Valdostan outfielder, who won two medals at the recent World Championships in Saalbach. “But we are not sick, we are fans and sympathizers. My favorite player has always been Maldini. Milan’s crisis? I wouldn’t know, I play an individual sport, it’s very difficult to identify with a team one.”

Alberto Tomba is in the crosshairs, eight podiums away from joining him: “That would be something incredible. He has only done giant and slalom and has 50 victories, for me he will always remain the best, it will not depend on numbers.” How nice and important it would be to close the World Cup talk at home in La Thuile is quickly said, “The date in La Thuile will be one of the most exciting things for me, it’s really my home, it’s a quarter of an hour from home. I have all my friends who will be part of the staff and the organization. We have three races, two super-Gs and one downhill, I hope I can keep the inevitable excitement at bay. I was very good at these this year: in Cortina, where I had always suffered, at the World Cup and in Sestriere, but it’s still the hardest thing to do, to be able to express yourself in the race at 100 percent, and in this sport if you don’t do that you don’t win races.”

Brignone could be Italy’s flag-bearer at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games: “My sports career is missing experiencing such a thrill. I deserve a bid, but there are so many other athletes who have won Olympic and world medals, so I know I am in good company. At the moment I am focused on this season,” Brignone concluded, “I will think about Milan-Cortina next year.
