Michelin Primacy 5, more performance and less environmental impact

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Developing a new tire or a new generation of tires means overcoming multiple challenges. These include working to improve some performances without degrading others. Making progress in terms of durability, energy efficiency, comfort and noise, all while being increasingly environmentally friendly and maintaining a high level of safety, requires a great deal of know-how and significant investment in research and development. As part of a sustainable approach, it is essential to offer tires with excellent mileage and a high level of performance. It is what enables consumers to use their tires safely from the first to the last mile.

According to two studies conducted in 2023 in Europe, the United States, and China, these are the main expectations of motorists, regardless of vehicle type. Thanks to a new patented design, a tread pattern with a higher notch rate (+13%) that allows for optimal water evacuation, and the use of the latest generation of functional elastomers, MICHELIN Primacy 5 has achieved class A in wet grip under European regulations. Safety is increased by 4% on wet surfaces when new, while its longer life (+18%) allows you to drive longer, about 7,000 km longer than its predecessor, always in complete safety, having passed the threshold test of wet grip with worn tire required by European regulations (R117-04).

This increased durability is even more important considering that vehicles today have different dynamic and design characteristics from the past, such as greater weight and higher torques, which have a direct effect on tire wear. With the development of electric vehicles, noise and comfort are increasingly valued factors by consumers. Michelin Primacy 5 integrates Michelin’s knowledge of reducing interior noise and improving driving comfort: the design of the new tread pattern and the optimized positioning of the tread blocks and sipes (quantity, size, and arrangement), enable Michelin Primacy 5 to achieve excellent exterior noise and comfort levels and reduced interior noise.

In order to continuously reduce its environmental footprint, Michelin is conducting an assessment (LCA) for each of the 5 life cycle stages of each new range: development, production, transportation, use, and end of life. Before being marketed, each new tire must outperform and outperform its predecessor. Michelin Primacy thus improves its LCA by 6 percent over the previous generation thanks, in particular, to improvements in mileage (+18 percent) and energy efficiency (+5 percent).

Michelin’s desire is to bring its latest technological advances to all motorists. Therefore, all its tire ranges-according to their specifications-must benefit from these innovations. MIchelin Primacy 5 is a perfect example. It offers a level of performance that corresponds to what one would expect from a sedan or SUV-whether endothermic, hybrid, or electric-by combining performance in durability, noise, and energy efficiency, with the specific characteristics of this type of vehicle, such as torque, range, and weight. In this way, the Group is developing an approach that allows its customers to choose their tires based on their needs and not on the type of power source in their car.
