ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Preventing and combating violence against women are shared goals at every level. Significant results can be achieved only with a choral action by institutions and civil society, following not only a repressive approach, which is also necessary, but a strategy focused on analyzing the root causes of violence.” So said Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi during question time in Montecitorio, speaking about violence against women. “The data on feminicides are still alarming. Prevention and contrast initiatives require the accompaniment of positive actions capable of deeply affecting the cultural level, through the promotion of the values of equality and respect, with particular attention to the new generations. My ministry,” he added, “has pursued the strengthening of the prevention activity entrusted to the police with the extension of the scope of application of the quaestor’s warning, the increase for prefects of dynamic vigilance measures to protect offended persons and the new hypotheses of deferred flagrante delicto arrest.
According to the minister, moreover, “it is crucial to intercept the warning signs as early as possible within interpersonal relationships in order to stop the cycle of violence: police personnel are specially trained in relation to the prevention and prosecution of crimes of domestic violence and violence against women, plus we have promoted numerous information and awareness campaigns aimed at women, both to collect the testimonies of those who are afraid to file a complaint and to provide information on possible means of protection.”
On electronic bracelets Piantedosi summarized, “The scope of use of the electronic bracelet has been greatly expanded by Law 168: there are currently more than 12 thousand electronic bracelets applied, 5,700 specifically for anti-stalking purposes. With Decree Law 178/2024 we have intervened again on the application methods of the instrument, to improve its application effectiveness with respect to concrete cases.”
