Mattarella “Italy and Japan wish for just peace in Ukraine”

TOKYO (JAPAN) (ITALPRESS) – “Tokyo and Rome hope that a just peace, in line with the principles of the UN Charter, adequately guaranteed at the international level, can finally be found for Ukraine to put an end to this tragedy that Russian aggression three years ago caused.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the end of his meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba. “The hope for peace is shared by Japan and Italy making an important contribution in this regard with the conception of open societies, with markets open to cooperation and the willingness to cooperate in every field with any other country in mutual respect and trust. We hope that this will be adopted in every part of the world as a criterion for ensuring the approach and stability of peace,” the head of state added.

Earlier in the day, the head of state had met with Keidanren top management and Japanese and Italian business leaders, “In Japan and Italy, the data on life expectancy are flattering. A result that attests to the quality of the environment and health care systems but, accompanied by low birth rates, they register an aging population and, combined with technological acceleration, a phenomenon with wide social repercussions, impose the need to reformulate established patterns of life.”

“In addition to the digital one, Japan and Italy are committed to the green transition, to counter the effects of climate change, which we were reminded of earlier,” Mattarella added. “Safeguarding the planet and its resources is not a path that can be tackled alone.

President Mattarella recalled that “Europe and Japan have, in parallel, embarked on an ambitious path. In 2020, the European Union officially launched the Green Deal to achieve climate neutrality. Japan in 2023 passed the GX Promotion Act, with ambitious targets for de-carbonization by 2050. We are both committed to the development of innovative technologies, focusing,” he concluded, “among other things, on increasingly sustainable agriculture and hydrogen as a source of energy supply. Italy is at the top in Europe when it comes to circular economy, recycling, and renewable energy.”
