INDIAN WELLS (USA) (ITALPRESS) – Bitter debuts for Flavio Cobolli and Luca Nardi at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, the first of the season, scheduled at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden with a prize pool of $8,963,700. Cobolli, world number 40, continues to wait for his first victory in the tournament: the Roman lost in the first round 3-6 6-2 6-2 to 22-year-old Colton Smith, number 261 Atp and in his first career match on the major circuit.
Like last year, Cobolli played not at 100 percent, tested by fever in the days leading up to the match. Against Smith he also had a chance to take a break lead at the start of the second and third sets but did not take advantage of them and instead lost his serve in the next game. Nardi, on the other hand, who last year reached the third round after a memorable victory over Novak Djokovic and who came in with his best ranking (No. 67), collected just three games against former British Top 10 player Cameron Norrie, now No. 77, who won 6-0 6-3.
