EU, Schlein “Yes to common defense but no to rearmament of 27 states”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “We confirm our criticism of the proposals made by von der Leyen on this plan to rearmament Europe and will work to change them. We are in favor of a common defense, but we are against the rearmament of the 27 European states. To do common defense for us we need investments backed by common debt. There is none of that in that plan.”

Thus Pd secretary Elly Schlein, a guest on Start on Sky Tg24. According to Schlein, “a huge and unacceptable mistake is to take funds for social and territorial cohesion and divert them to military spending.” In addition, “we call for unanimity in Europe, and then we need a big investment plan that also does common defense, but also a big energy plan that helps industry.”

The Dem secretary then noted, “We do not know what position Giorgia Meloni will bring, just as it was for the Paris and London summits. We asked the premier to come to Parliament to report, but she refused, perhaps because inside the majority they have three different ideas: Tajani is in favor of the recall plan, the League is against it, and Meloni has not spoken.”
