Pogacar unrivaled, wins solo Strade Bianche 2025 and drops a hat trick

SIENA (ITALPRESS) – Not even the crash with 50 kilometers to go, not even the bloody shoulder. The math on what the damage is will be done tomorrow, today it’s time to celebrate again: Tadej Pogacar picks up where he left off last year, namely by dominating far and wide. The Slovenian won the Strade Bianche 2025, once again solo: this time the decisive sprint came at -18, but changing the order the result remains the same. The turning point of the race – a 213-kilometer route along the Sienese roads – came with 78 kilometers to go, when Thomas Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) attacked: prompt response from the Slovenian, who immediately relaunched the action and within a few kilometers the two caught the escapees. A leading trio was thus formed along with Connor Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), but with 50 kilometers to go the reigning world champion slipped on the downhill going into the ditch. Pogacar got up immediately, immediate bike change to catch up with Pidcock himself, detached then in sector 15, on the Pinzuto Pass: from there the solo breakaway to the finish line, for the third time in his career (equaled Fabian Cancellara).

Le parole di Pogacar

“It’s a great success and it’s good to know that a dirt section will be named after me,” he said after the race. “I’m happy even though it would have been better to avoid falling. I know that stretch of road well but I miscalculated my speed. I recovered and didn’t feel the pain too much, at least until the finish. When I changed bikes I was a little worried however in the end everything went well. The race was very fast, there was a tricky breakaway and it forced us to go fast from the start.” So the classics season begins under Pogacar’s sign: on Saturday, March 22, space is given to the 116th edition of Milan-San Remo.
