Russia expels two British diplomats accused of espionage

MOSCOW (RUSSIA) (ITALPRESS) – Russia has decided to expel from its territory two British diplomats accused of conducting espionage activities. This was reported in a note by the Moscow intelligence service (FSB).

“It has been reliably established that the second secretary of the embassy, Alkesh Odedra, born Dec. 25, 1990, and Michael Skinner, born June 30, 1992, husband of the first secretary of the embassy’s political department, Tabasum Rashid, intentionally provided false information when they received permission to enter our country, thus violating Russian law. At the same time, the FSB has identified signs indicating that the said diplomats are carrying out intelligence and subversive activities that threaten the security of the Russian Federation,” the statement said.

Odedra and Skinner are to leave Russia within two weeks, the FSB memo further specifies. The expulsion of the two diplomats follows that of six employees of the British Embassy’s political department in September and that of the second secretary of the same diplomatic mission in late November. The U.K. Foreign Office reacted to Moscow’s decision by calling the charges against its diplomats “baseless” and “lying.”
