LONDON (UNITED KINGDOM) (ITALPRESS) – “As a journalist, I think we underestimate the value of the written page both in the field of information and culture in general. Today books are the basis of so many television series, podcasts and so many tools for new use of the same information. The substance, even in this new technological context, remains that of authors working with their creativity. We work to protect it fully and also to seize the opportunities of innovation.” This was said by the undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for information and publishing, Alberto Barachini, as he inaugurated the Italian pavilion at the London Book Fair together with Italian Ambassador Inigo Lambertini, the director of the Italian Cultural Institute Francesco Bongarrà and the director of Ice in London Giovanni Sacchi.
“We are honored by the presence of Undersecretary Barachini, which testifies to the government’s attention to promoting the entire Italian publishing system. The London fair represents the gateway to an infinite number of markets, and it comforts us to know that we can also count on his collaboration to promote the journey of our books and our culture in the world,” Bongarrà stressed.

A collaboration that the Italian executive in turn remarked. “The Italian government is committed to promoting all of our country’s creativity, from literature to information, from cinematography to the audiovisual industry as a whole. It is a time when artificial intelligence, algorithms are confronting us with many questions, one of which concerns the difference between human creativity and digital tools. I think the work of the government and my department is precisely to identify the specificities of these two worlds. Human creativity,” Barachini stressed, “is not a substitute, and the same goes for the sensitivity and reading of contexts that are inherent in human beings. At the same time, the tools of innovation are fundamental, I am not afraid of them, but we certainly need to find a way that will lead this innovation to a safe path for citizens to always be able to distinguish what is real, human and what is not. This also applies to translations, as this fair is a key event for the exchange and purchase of international translation rights. We are working and will continue to work to make innovation as safe as possible for both citizens and copyright holders, because there is also an important issue here of copyright defense, which is the economic-financial basis of this industry,” he concluded.
