LILLA (FRANCE) (ITALPRESS) – At the Stade Pierre Mauroy, Borussia Dortmund are the first qualifiers of the evening for the Champions League quarterfinals. Kovac’s boys knock out Lille 2-1, thanks to goals from Emre Can on a penalty kick and Beier. The French side’s ride was thus interrupted, despite the initial lead scored by Canadian star David. A well-deserved success for Dortmund whose performance grew noticeably as the minutes passed after the shock start. In the next round the Germans will face Barcelona.
Supported by the warmth of their fans, Lille approached the match better and found the goal of the lead already after five minutes. Unlocking the result was Jonathan David, thanks to a duck by Kobel: on the Canadian number 9’s first-time shot, in fact, the Swiss goalkeeper missed the intervention and the ball slipped under his legs.
After numerous attempts in the first half, Dortmund finally managed to even the score at 54′, thanks to a penalty kick, caused by contact between Meunier and Guirassy: from the penalty spot captain Emre Can stamped the 1-1. The goal boosted the confidence of the Germans, authors of an excellent second half: among the individuals, the rising performances of Adeyemi and Beier are worth mentioning. Just the latter allowed the guests to complete the comeback at 65′, scoring his first goal in the top competition with a powerful right-footed shot under the crossbar.
The French tried until the end and it was once again David who had the best chance to make it 2-2: the Canadian’s right-footed shot at 79′ was powerful, but central. After a fine run, Lille bid farewell to Europe’s top competition.
