NAPLES (ITALPRESS) – The Southern High School in Naples hosted an extraordinarily important meeting on March 14, coordinated by the Sbarro Health Research Organization (SHRO), with the presence of the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor, Dr. Giovanni Melillo, who gave a lectio magistralis on “Constitutional Duties.” Also present was the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, who prefaced the start of the proceedings by welcoming the City’s Prosecutor Melillo and the speakers who joined. The Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM) is the first in Southern Italy in terms of excellence in modes and services aimed at the Education of young students.
The event was attended by Professor Giuseppe Recinto, Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Education and Merit, and Professor Antonio Giordano, Professor of Pathological Anatomy at the University of Siena, both members of the SSM Ordinatorial Committee; Professor Matteo Lorito, Rector of the University Federico II in Naples; and Professor Arturo De Vivo, Head of the Southern High School Ordinatorial Committee. Also supporting the event were members of the SSM’s Ordinatory Committee, such as Professor Giovanni Francesco Nicoletti Rector of the University of Campania L. Vanvitelli and Professor Pierdomenico Perata of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.
In the audience were numerous auditors, including the coordinators of SSM doctoral programs including Professors Nicola Fusco and Salvatore Capozziello and Prof. Margherita Interlandi, Law Department Director Prof. Carla Masi, Humanities Department Director Prof. Andrea Mazzucchi and School of Humanities and Social Sciences President Prof. Stefano Consiglio, doctoral students/representatives of the City of Naples. All present emphasized the central role of education in building a conscious and responsible society.
As reiterated by Prof. Giuseppe Recinto: “In his lectio magistralis on ‘Constitutional Duties,’ Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo highlighted the centrality of duties in the construction of democratic life. In particular, the distinguished speaker identified duties as the logical and legal premise on which respect for others and solidarity are based. For Melillo, strengthening duties means strengthening rights as well, especially in such a complex historical moment as the present, in which even freedom and peace appear as fragile values.”
Among the protagonists of the meeting is the Sbarro Health Research Organization, led by Professor Antonio Giordano, who reiterated his commitment to the dissemination of scientific culture not only as a tool for technological progress, but as a pivotal element in building a more equitable and just society. The meeting is part of a broader effort to raise awareness of the value of Research as an engine of social change, highlighting the connection between science, public health and the fight against mafias.
“Research and science stand by the weakest groups, often those who are most subjugated by mafias”-said Dr. Antonio Giordano, SHRO director. “Doing scientific information means making citizens understand the value of the common good; meetings like this go in this direction. I am really excited about yesterday and the presence of the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor, Dr. Giovanni Melillo, the highest Italian institution on the fight against mafia criminal organizations.”
The Scuola Superiore Meridionale in Naples, a prestigious center of higher education, confirms itself as a point of reference for the dissemination of culture and legality, not only in the Campania region, but throughout Italy.
The Head of the School’s Ordering Committee, Professor Arturo De Vivo, reiterated his satisfaction with the splendid success of the meeting, emphasizing the message inherent in Prosecutor Melillo’s report, “The Prosecutor, starting from the fundamentals of Platonic thought, discussed with broad vision the importance of duties in a democratic state that wants to guarantee the rights of its citizens.”
The Sbarro Health Research Organization continues to promote the value of Research as a tool for collective growth, strengthening the dialogue between institutions, academia and civil society.
