At “Custodians Earth Solutions Symposium,” analyses on the impact of microplastics on human health

ROME (ITALPRESS) – A press conference was held this morning at the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies in Montecitorio to present The Custodians Earth Solutions Symposium, an international congress dedicated to analyzing the impact of microplastics on human health and presenting concrete solutions to reduce their spread. The congress, organized by BioDesign Foundation in collaboration with the Navy and the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, is scheduled for April 3, 2025 in Rome EUR, at the Salone delle Colonne.

Representatives from BioDesign Foundation and its institutional partners, the Navy, Guardia di Finanza and Coast Guard, as well as delegates from the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, spoke during the conference. The speakers stressed the urgent need to address the issue of pollution due to microplastics, providing worrying data: in fact, more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced every year, but only a small percentage (9 percent) is recycled properly. Instead, 100 million tons end up in nature, fragmenting into invisible particles that contaminate air, water and food, causing damage to human health and biodiversity.

Among the partners supporting BioDesign Foundation who will be taking the floor at the Symposium are also entities such as NaturaSì and Enespa, both of which are involved in researching and implementing concrete solutions to address microplastic pollution-a topic that will be addressed within a dedicated panel. In particular, the company specializing in healthy and organic food shares BioDesign’s mission to promote people’s health, starting with the foods they choose. On the other hand, the Enespa Group proposes a system of chemical recycling of commonly non-recyclable plastic, with the aim of closing its life cycle according to the principles of the circular economy, returning it to its original material and allowing it to be used again.

The Custodians Earth Solutions Symposium represents not only a moment of confrontation, but a real call to action: in fact, it will be the first step in a journey that will culminate with The Custodians Plastic Race Italy, the largest clean-up operation ever planned on a national scale, scheduled for October 6-12, 2025. An event in which institutions, companies, schools, sports federations, associations and volunteers will be mobilized for an unprecedented collective action aimed at cleaning up the Italian territory from plastic waste.

“The microplastics crisis requires a concrete and coordinated response,” commented Roberto Guerini, president of BioDesign Foundation. “Only through a shared commitment can we restore environmental balance and promote a new awareness. The Custodians Plastic Race is an innovative clean-up format designed to be replicable on a global scale through informational materials, video tutorials, and webinars. Since its founding in 2021, BioDesign Foundation with the Custodians of the Future has already collected more than 800,000 kilograms of plastic.
