A video of a young couple from Irpinia, Michele and Ilary, celebrating their wedding at a McDonald’s in Avellino has gone viral on social media. The video, which was shared by the Facebook page “Ci vuole Costanza,” shows the couple explaining their unconventional choice with a simple reason: “Because we are poor.”
Michele and Ilary, both from Montoro in the province of Avellino, opted for a modest celebration with friends at the fast food restaurant, where they handed out McDonald’s merchandise instead of traditional wedding favors. The video captures the newlyweds happily mingling with guests among the tables, a scene that has sparked widespread attention online.
Montoro’s mayor, Salvatore Carratù, expressed surprise at the media buzz, noting that this isn’t the first couple to celebrate their wedding this way. After learning about the event, he clarified that the couple later gathered with family and friends at a restaurant for a more traditional celebration.
