The fifth edition of the Caruso Tribute Prize will be held in New York from 12 to 14 October

The fifth edition of the Caruso Tribute Prize is being prepared in New York, the award created by the television producer Dante Mariti and organized by Melos International to celebrate the figure of the Neapolitan tenor Enrico Caruso. The event, scheduled from 12 to 14 October in conjunction with Columbus Day, includes concerts, celebratory moments and a awards ceremony at the Italian American Museum, with the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy and the Comites of New York.

The event will open on 12 October with a concert in the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral, one of Manhattan’s oldest churches. The Venetian tenor Alessandro Lora, established in the Italian crossover landscape, will perform together with soprano Chiara Cremaschi, pianist Alessandro Marini and Spanish singer Amalia, who will propose his “Hail Maria for Peace”. Lora, already a collaborator of artists such as Arisa and Iva Zanicchi, will receive the Caruso Award as the new talent of international opera.

The next day, on October 13th, the award-winning will participate in the traditional Columbus Day parade along Fifth Avenue, followed each year by millions of spectators and broadcast live national television. The parade, established in 1929, is one of the most important moments for the Italian American community and has been a symbol of the cultural link between Italy and the United States for decades.

The award ceremony will be held on October 14 at the Italian American Museum in Little Italy, an institution founded by Joseph Scelsa to document the history and contribution of Italian immigrants in America. The evening will be conducted by Veronica Maya along with journalist Nicola Santini. Among the winners include, in addition to Lora, the soprano Katia Ricciarelli, the entrepreneur Santo Versace, the tenor Nicola Pisaniello, the Neapolitan singer Federica Raimo and Francesca Pascale for his engagement in the civil field.

In his message, Versace defined the recognition “an honor that touches the most authentic strings of the Italian soul”, recalling the parallel between the worldwide diffusion of the beautiful song of Caruso and the ability of Italian fashion to become universal language. Silvana Mangione, vice president of the CGIE, and Don Luigi Portarulo, rector of the Old St. Patrick Basilica, will also be rewarded for their commitment to enhancing Italian culture and community in the United States.

Dante Mariti described the Caruso Tribute Prize as “a bridge between Italy and America”, designed to recognize figures that stand out in the fields of art, entrepreneurship, science and social. In past editions, the award was awarded to personalities such as the tenors Fabio Armiliato and Gianluca Terranova, the actor Armand Assante and the congressman Christian Di Sanzo. This year, the award will be accompanied by a polychrome ceramic sculpture created by the artist Rosa Maria Raffaele, witnessing the link between memory and contemporary creativity.
