Gaza, the Farnesina continues to work at the ‘university corridors’

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – As part of the government’s action in favour of the civilian population of Gaza, the Farnesina continues to work for the “university corridors” for the reception in our country of Palestinian scholarship recipients, within the Iupals Project (Italian Universities for Palestinian Students) of the Crui.

After the first group of 39 students and researchers arrived in early October, the Farnesina will bring in Italy a new group of about 60 people, including students and family reunions. Even after the signing of truce agreements, procedures remain complex. Israeli and Jordanian governments’ authorization remains a fundamental requirement for exit and transit in Jordan. Currently transit countries do not provide other types of exit – in addition to health and family reunification.

The start of university corridors between Gaza and Italy was only possible thanks to tight diplomatic talks. As long as Italy did not start such operations, for students few and occasional permits were released. In the same way, particularly delicate is the question of welcoming students’ families.

Because of the policies implemented so far by the transit countries (Israel and Jordan) it is not allowed for the fellows to travel with their relatives to the following. Interested persons can activate requests for family reunification once regularised their position in Italy, with residence permit, applying to the Prefectures of the place of residence. To date Italy has in fact evacuated 429 people in the context of family reunions.
