Mattarella “Ue faces existential challenges, no to yields”

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – “Today the European institutions, which Brussels has assumed the task of welcoming, are confronted with existential challenges. Kingdom of Belgium and the Italian Republic, strong of their values and democratic history, can support the European Union in a historical phase in which global challenges want to question the fundamental principles of our own Union and peaceful coexistence among peoples. We can’t afford a break. The Union is a guarantee of the freedom and progress of our peoples. They are intolerable narratives and acts that would weaken the sovereignty and freedom of the European people and other peoples.” This was said by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the toast at the Royal Palace in Brussels, on the occasion of the visit of State in the Kingdom of Belgium.

“The Nobel Peace Prize, Henri la Fontaine, in his speech at the first Assembly of the Society of Nations – which he had contributed to found – said “the war is the right that the peoples arrogated to be judges, parties and executioners in their cause. This idea we must eliminate it not only from our national law, but also from international law, and every nation that will resort to war, although its cause is right, must be considered guilty of committing a crime – Mattarella said. In these almost seventy years of life the European Union has defended and promoted our values and rights of our citizens, creating the largest area of democracy and social progress known here. And it is in the context of the challenging and fascinating construction of this path that followed happy moments and tragedies.”.
