Tajani opens the General States of the Space Economy “Straordinario know how to make Italian”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The economy of space “is a theme of which we have always spoken little and never understood the importance of the sector. We Italians have an extraordinary knowledge, we have not only great companies but also many pmi that allow to create great opportunities for our country. We want to value this sector also because it is a non-polluting industrial sector, moreover, we cannot renounce our knowledge and our role in the European context by focusing on the space sector”. Thus, the vice-premier and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, opening the General States of the Space Economy in progress at the Farnesina. “We must and can do more, we must understand how important the space in industrial, agricultural, air traffic, civil protection can be. One cannot but think how much space can be useful in European security.” The 2025 edition of the event, after what in September last year saw the participation of more than 240 speakers, takes place at a time of particular importance for the sector, after the recent adoption of the first Italian law on space and while at European level is working on a EU Space Act.

In addition, the General States shortly preceded the ministerial meeting of the European Space Agency which in November – under Italian Presidency – will define the European ambitions of the next three years, in a context of profound changes in the space industry and of challenges related to the increasing connections between space and defense. Our country is very active on the theme also at international and multilateral level and Italy will be protagonist at the United Nations with the Presidency, in the two-year period 2026-2027, of the Committee on the peaceful use of space (COPUOS), the only global forum for the definition of common rules. The president of the Parliamentary Intergroup on Space Economy, Andrea Mascaretti, points out that Italy is “a great spatial power, we were the third country to autonomously orbit a satellite. We are working to make a system and bring around the country awareness of the great results obtained in this field. The moon is our first goal after low orbits.” The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antonella Sberna, points out that “space is not a remote place but a space for dialogue, at the frontier of the economy, enters public services, in security and in everyday life”.

“We are all attentive to this economy and the perspective it can have. The USA are historical allies and strategic partners, but they are partners with which Italy and the EU can be an equal partner. Europe must be able to lead the economy of space, space must remain a hive of peaceful cooperation,” he concludes. The Vice-President and Councillor for Economic Development of the Lazio Region, Roberta Angelilli, observes that the first day of the week of the Space economy is in Lazio and “it is for us reason of great satisfaction that the first day is in Rome and Lazio. Once we salute with great enthusiasm because it is not a conference but a networking project that we do especially with companies, research and institutions. Space is a strategic sector for the economy, innovation, competitiveness and is a leader in industrial, technological and national and European security,” he concludes.

The exhibition dedicated to the Space Economy will continue until 31 and will develop, as well as in Rome, also in Turin and Milan gathering institutions, the world of finance, representatives of the great Italian industry, the university and research in three appointments dedicated to the challenges of diplomacy, technological innovation and sustainability.
