ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Halloween is consolidated in Italian habits. According to the Ipsos survey for Confesercenti, this year 61% of citizens will participate, celebrating or buying products, at the night of witches: a slightly lower share than 64% recorded in 2024 – even for the lack of the ‘bridge’ of November 1 – but confirming the stability of the festival in the country. This is what emerges from the usual Ipsos survey for Confesercent on Italian consumption and buying habits on Halloween.
Participation varies by age groups: it is 70% among under 34, while between over 35 the share is 58%. Even higher among families with children: it will celebrate 73% of the nuclei with at least one child. Shopping shopping. Despite the slight overall decline of the participants, the purchase of products in the retail channel should remain stable at approximately 300 million euros: the share of those who plan to spend more ( 25%) is in fact higher than those who report want to reduce the budget (17%). Desserts and home products – from decorations to glassware, through glasses and thematic accessories – are the most popular products: 59% of those who participate will buy sweets and candies and 45% will adopt the themed house. They follow masks, tricks and accessories: 34% will mask their children, 28% will do it personally, while 25% will wear an accessory in Halloween style.
Among the traditions now consolidated also the “sweet or joke”: 23% of the participants will accompany the children in the door-to-door tour or among the activities of proximity of the neighborhood, confirming the rooting of this custom in the neighborhoods and contexts of community. Shopping is hybrid, and combines proximity and digital. 58% of those who celebrate will shop at the supermarket, 43% in shopping centres, 22% online, while the role of activities in the territory remains significant: 20% will go to neighborhood shops and 19% will buy in markets. On the rise, this year, sociality outside the house: 35% of those celebrating Halloween will do so at an event or in a public exercise — discos, bars, restaurants and locals — in a slight increase compared to 32% last year, to confirm the central role of these enterprises on 31 October. The turnover generated by the witches’ night in public exercises should reach 250 million.
“Halloween has become, even in Italy, a moment of sociality that mainly involves young people and families with children. For public exercises it is a celebration that brings vitality to urban centers and neighborhoods, thanks to themed evenings, events and entertainment opportunities that strengthen the role of bars and restaurants as places of meeting and participation”, comments Giancarlo Banchieri, President of Fiepet Confesercenti, who gathers the public exercises of the Association.
“Even in a more prudent context in consumption, the festival remains an opportunity to go out and live experiences, demonstrating how locals continue to be a central area of community life.”.
