Hyundai Motor Group inaugurates a new European Proven Center

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Hyundai Motor Group today has released news of the opening of a new structure from 150 million euros, in Germany, at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) in Rùsselsheim am Main, focusing a new important milestone in its commitment to innovation and engineering excellence in Europe. Since the opening of the Round Campus in 2003, Square Campus is the largest investment in a research and development structure of the HMETC, aimed at promoting innovative technologies and capable of imposing themselves on the market for an increasingly important role of future Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models in Europe. Tyrone Johnson, Managing Director at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, said: “The investment in Square Campus is a concrete proof of our commitment to the region and highlights the importance of Europe in our long-term growth strategy. The new increased capabilities of HMETC ensure greater independence and flexibility, but at the same time, they set the basis for new and exciting opportunities for collaboration among our brands. Square Campus, in essence, will also be fundamental to support the continuous growth of our market share in Europe, through the development of new models and technologies specifically designed according to the needs of our customers.” The site of 25,000 square meters includes the Group’s largest semianecoic chamber, which allows for unlimited tests on noise, vibration and roughness (NVH) and driving noise, regardless of weather conditions. The highly advanced square campus dynammetry structures play a central role in the development of new models, since they allow complete testing on both vehicles and single components and can be used on electric, hybrid or internal combustion engines. The structure is also equipped with a new charging laboratory for electric vehicles, a cutting-edge driving simulator and new structures for the development of extended electronic systems, including over-the-air updates (OTA), computer security and advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). These cutting-edge capabilities allow HMETC to test and validate any type of vehicle under real conditions and at the same time develop future products tailored to the specific needs of European users. The investment on Square Campus is an essential part of the Group’s strategy and emphasizes the position of leader in advanced technologies. Prototyping tests in real conditions will continue to be a fundamental part of development, but Square Campus protects from the criticalities related to external testing and integrates global testing and sharing programs of existing knowledge in the Group. Square Campus contributes to the Group’s environmental objectives thanks to the use of recycled materials, photovoltaic panels and heat pump systems. This approach reflects the Group’s broadest commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions and achieving the goal of zero global emissions by 2045. This important extension lays the foundations for the growth of the HMETC team, which has increased by 20% only since 2024, with an organization that employs more than 500 employees at this time. The investment in talents and technology opens a new phase of integrated innovation, bringing together experts from different disciplines to promote the Group’s vision of sustainable and connected mobility. The strengthening in Europe also takes place at the Nùrburgring, at HMETC plants inaugurated in 2013. In January 2025 the site was expanded with an additional 834 square meters of state-of-the-art test facilities, workshop areas and specialized laboratories, thanks to an investment of 13 million euros.
