Condotte 1880 will build the new railway line in Uganda

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The construction company Condotte 1880, led by Professor Valter Mainetti, is in the direction of arrival to finalize, in consortium with Italian companies specialized in the field, the contract with Uganda for the realization “turnkey” of a new railway line of 62 km. This infrastructure will connect Tororo, an important railway node located near the border with Kenya, with Majanji, a city in the eastern region on Lake Victoria, where is previewed the construction of a port destined mainly to the traffic goods. Strategic infrastructure for the progress of the African country Condotte 1880 provides for the design and construction of the infrastructure, considered strategic by the Ugandan government for the economic progress of the country. The work will play a crucial role in facilitating trade with neighbouring countries, in particular with Kenya and the port of Mombasa, which represents for Uganda, without outlets on the sea, a fundamental access to maritime traffic.

“I am proud – said Valter Mainetti, Chairman and CEO of Condotte 1880 – to be able to contribute to the realization of a very important infrastructure for Uganda, making available the experience acquired recently in Algeria, where we are finishing a 130 km railway with numerous viaducts and tunnels. I am also honored to intervene in a country with which, since 1974, Italy has maintained close cooperation. This project represents not only an opportunity for growth and development for Uganda, but also a concrete example of how international collaboration can foster the progress and well-being of local communities.”.

The consortium “made in Italy” will participate beyond Condotte 1880, to which will compete 65% of the total value of the project of 650 million dollars, Salcef Group for railway and electric plants, Progress Rail/Caterpiliar – Italy for the signs and railway safety and Almaviva for the tlc and digital infrastructure. “The new railway, which also includes 6 stations, will be realized – explained Ugo Cozzani, Vice President of Condotte 1880, foreign manager – partly through the installation and installation of prefabricated structures built on site, including the railway crossings. The staff that will be employed will also be specially trained, also for management levels, in an Academy of Railway Formation, which the consortium undertakes to establish at the Busiterna University of Tororo”. The financing of the project, which is expected to be definitively approved by December 2025, will be coordinated by CityBank and will enjoy the sovereign guarantee of the Government of Uganda, which will also participate directly with the contribution of 15%. Among the contributors of the work is the Italian intervention through Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Sace e Simest.
