Bernini “The funds for universities and research increase, the ordinary funding fund exceeds 9,4 billion”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Despite the scheme of the Budget Law “prevents a general rationalization of expenditure, this approach does not concern neither the University nor research. With an extraordinary commitment and effort, the funds for universities and research increase.” Thus the minister of university and research, Anna Maria Bernini, on TuttoScienze de La Stampa. “When I settled in 2022, the Ordinary Fund was 8.6 billion. Today it exceeds 9,4, level never touched before,” Bernini concluded.

“To date, the research bands were occasional, intermittent, discontinuous. This law of Budget changes paradigm. The Research Programming Fund is set up, which has several funds now active: from the Special Integrative Fund for Research (FISR) to the Italian Science Fund (FIS) and the Italian Fund for Applied Sciences (FISA)”. “Not just a shortening – it has specified -, but additional resources and a new vision, which meets the right needs of researchers: over 800 million euros for the next three years to give continuity, strength and direction to Italian research. It means that, from today, a stable and multiannual programming will be possible, with a timetable of the bands fixed every year to 30 April”.

The owner of the Mur then added that the PRIN – Projects of Relevant National Interest – become annual bands with a minimum guaranteed endowment of 150 million, “a ‘base’ incrementabile with additional resources. A radical change in logic compared to the past. In fact – Bernini concludes – the overall investment in research exceeds 1,2 billion in the three years.”.
