The Spanish beats Taylor Fritz (after beating the Australian De Minaur on his debut) and makes him come back with a score of 6-7 (2) 7-5 6-3 in the “Jimmy Connors” group match. After a complicated first set, with a lot of tie break dominated by the American, Alcaraz is forced to cancel two break balls in the fifth game of the second period. The turn comes in the twelfth game: Alcaraz salt 0-40, Fritz cancels the first set point but not the second. Less balance in the decisive set: Fritz undergoes fatigue, Alcaraz raises the level and closes on 6-3. First defeat for the American after the victory at the debut on Musetti.
