REGGIO CALABRIA (ITALPRESS) – The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria, together with the Office of the Agency of Customs and Monopolies of Gioia Tauro, has seized at the Port of Gioia Tauro, a game of pure cocaine of more than 175 kilograms.
The operation is to be framed in a more complex and articulated plan of interventions prepared on the whole port area of joy, with the intensification of inspections and controls, with the purpose of identifying, among the thousands of containers enlivened daily, those used by criminal sodalizi to conceal the amazing.
In particular, the soldiers of the Gioia Tauro Group and the staff of the Customs Agency, in the within of the controls of the areas of the local harbour terminal, aimed at intercepting any loads of substance imported from organized crime, have selected and subjected to accurate inspections three containers, two of which from Latin America and destined in Italy and in the countries of Eastern Europe, which transported respectively octopus and frozen shrimps.
Specifically, the locked containers were first subjected to a thorough radiogen scan, using the sophisticated scanner equipment supplied to the Agency of Customs and Monopolies, and subsequently to an accurate inspection with the precious aid of the cynofile units in force to the Group of the Finance Guard of Gioia Tauro.
At the end of the controls, 154 bakers of cocaine were discovered and seized, for a total weight of more than 175 kilograms, which were skillfully hidden inside the containers, in an attempt to overcome the penetrating customs and police controls systematically carried out near the harbour area of Gioia Tauro. The seized cocaine could have yielded a substantial income to criminal organizations, estimated at around €30 million.
