DETROIT (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – On the occasion of Veterans Day, the Italian Consul in Detroit, Allegra Baistrocchi, took part in the inauguration ceremony of the statue dedicated to Frances “Fran” Mauro Masters, historical “Rosie the Riveter” of 103 years, held at the Royal Oak War Memorial Park.
The ceremony paid tribute to veterans and to all those who, in uniform or as civilians, contributed to the defense of freedom and democratic values. During his intervention, Consul Baistrocchi underlined the deep bond of friendship and collaboration between Italy and the United States, a relationship that has its roots in the years of World War II and which continues to strengthen even today.
“Today we celebrate an extraordinary woman and, through her, all those who believed in freedom and democracy – Baistrocchi explained. Frances Mauro Masters is the ideal bridge between Italy and the United States: with his work, his dedication and his spirit of sacrifice has shown that collaboration, courage and civic sense can change the course of history. It is an honor, as an Italian, to pay tribute to a compatriot who helped build a future of peace and freedom for all”.
The daughter of Italian immigrants, Frances Mauro Masters has become a symbol of resilience and patriotism over time. The statue dedicated to her, inaugurated on the day of Veterans Day, wants to remember the contribution of women workers during the war and the fundamental role of the Italian-American community in the civil and industrial fabric of the United States. Consul Baistrocchi also expressed his gratitude to the veterans and members of the armed forces present, recalling that “freedom is a value that builds together, every day, with courage, solidarity and collaboration”.
The event, promoted by the city of Royal Oak and numerous civil and veteran associations, saw the participation of Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, as well as local authorities, military representatives and members of the Italian-American community of Michigan.
