Trump asks Israel President Herzog to grant grace to Netanyahu

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – American President Donald Trump sent a letter to the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, asking him to consider the granting of grace to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, the Israeli presidency has explained that grace is required by a condemned after the conclusion of the process. “It is an honor for me to write them at this historic moment, because together we have just achieved the peace that has been sought for at least 3,000 years. With this present I once again thank you and all the Israelis for your kind and warm hospitality, and I am addressing a key topic of my speech to the Knesset. While the great state of Israel and the extraordinary Jewish people exceed the terribly difficult times of the last three years, I invite you to grant grace to Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been a formidable and decisive prime minister in time of war, and is now leading Israel to a period of peace, which includes my continuous work with the leading leaders of the Middle East to add many other countries to the Abraham Agreements that are changing the world”, writes Trump in the missive.

Trump adds that “Netanyahu defended Israel against strong opponents and poor odds, and his attention cannot be unnecessarily distracted. While respecting absolutely the independence of the Israeli judicial system and its requirements, I believe that this ‘case’ against Bibi, who fought alongside me for a long time, even against the harsh opponent of Israel, Iran, is a political and unjustified criminal action. Isaac, we have established a great relationship, of which I am very grateful and honored, and we agreed, as soon as I settled in January, that the attention had to be concentrated on finally bringing the hostages home and on achieving the peace agreement. Now that we have achieved these unprecedented successes and we are keeping Hamas under control, it is time to let Bibi join Israel by forgiving it and ending that legal war once and for all.” The Israeli Presidency office said: “The President of the State has deep respect for President Trump. It reaffirms its appreciation for its unconditional support for Israel and its enormous contribution to the return of the kidnapped, the change of the face of the Middle East and Gaza and the maintenance of the security of the State of Israel. Without removing anything from the above, as the President of the State has repeatedly clarified, whoever is interested in receiving grace must submit a question in accordance with the rules.” The grace, according to the Israeli order, is granted to the condemned after the judges were pronounced. Currently there is a process for alleged corruption at the expense of Netanyahu.
