Export stable in the North, increases in the Center and falls in the South

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In the second quarter of 2024, compared with the previous quarter, exports were almost stationary for the Northwest and Northeast, up for the Center (+1.1 percent) and down for the South and Islands (-3.6 percent). This is noted by Istat. In the period January-June 2024, the year-on-year decrease in domestic exports in value (-1.1 percent) is a summary of differentiated territorial dynamics: the Northwest (-3.5 percent), the Center (-2.3 percent) and the Northeast (-1.4 percent) record a decline in foreign sales, while there is a marked growth in exports for the Islands (+7.3 percent) and a smaller increase for the South (+1.9 percent). In the first six months of 2024, the largest trend declines in exports are in Marche (-41.3 percent), Basilicata (-40.9 percent) and Liguria (-26.3 percent); while the most dynamic export regions are Sardinia (+18.8 percent), Calabria (+18.0 percent), Molise (+14.2 percent), Campania (+8.8 percent) and Tuscany (+8.7 percent). In the same period, the sharp decline in sales of pharmaceutical, chemical-medical and botanical items from Marche contributes 1.4 percentage points to the decline in domestic exports; a further negative contribution of 1.1 points comes from lower exports of motor vehicles from Piedmont and Basilicata and of basic metals and metal products excluding machinery and equipment from Lombardy and Veneto. At the opposite end of the scale, increased sales of sporting goods, games, musical instruments, valuables, medical instruments and other products not elsewhere classified (n.e.c.) from Tuscany and pharmaceutical, chemical-medical and botanical items from Tuscany, Campania and Lazio provide a positive boost of 2.0 percentage points. In the first half of the year, the largest negative contributions to the year-over-year decline in domestic exports come from declining sales from Marche to China (-94.9%) and Belgium (-55.8%), Tuscany to Switzerland (-64.8%), Liguria to the United States (-80.5%) and Lombardy to Germany (-6.0%), the United States (-5.7%) and France (-5.3%). The largest positive contributions, on the other hand, came from increased exports from Tuscany to Turkey (+275.8%) and the United States (+40.0%), Campania to Switzerland (+63.6%) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the United States (+119.3%). In the provincial analysis of exports, the negative performances of Ascoli Piceno, Turin, Genoa, Livorno and Potenza are noted; the largest positive contributions come from Arezzo, Florence, Latina, Naples and Gorizia. -photo Istat press office-(ITALPRESS).
