August is a month traditionally devoted to vacations, rediscovering roots, and strengthening family ties and friendships. Still, there are activities worth accounting for.
In early August the Yankees team dedicated a game, the one with the Toronto Blue Jays – then lost, to Italian Heritage. It was exciting to see the Bronx stadium filled with blue caps.
On Sunday, August 4, the Whitestone community in Queens – as it does every first Sunday in August – gathered to celebrate Our Lady of the Angels: the celebration, which began with a Mass and continued by a crowded procession, ended with a luncheon at the headquarters of the Associazione Sacchesi d’America. Among the organizers were President Mario Saggese and Comites Councilor Pasquale Masullo.
Masullo himself later represented Comites at the event on the occasion of the Tricolor Arrows’ passage over New York skies before Ferragosto. It was a moment that united Italians from the most diverse backgrounds under the banner of national unity.
During the month of August, the Comites raised the funding that will enable it to face the coming months with greater vitality.
