Ukraine, leader G7 and EU “The US plan is a base that requires further work”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We welcome the continued efforts of the United States to bring peace to Ukraine. The initial draft of the plan in 28 points includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace. We therefore believe that the draft is a basis which will require further work. We are ready to commit ourselves to ensuring that future peace is sustainable.” Thus in a joint declaration the heads of government of the G7 countries, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the presidents of Council and European Commission, Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.

“We are clear on the principle that borders should not be changed by force. We are also concerned about the limitations proposed to the Ukrainian armed forces, which would make Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks – the Declaration continues. We believe that the implementation of EU and NATO elements would require the consent of EU and NATO members respectively. We take this opportunity to underline the strength of our continued support for Ukraine. We will continue to coordinate closely with Ukraine and the United States in the coming days.”.
