PARIGI (FRANCIA) (ITALPRESS) – Russia “can not have the impression of being rewarded for this war”. The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared this in a press conference with the French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
For Zelensky “the territorial question is the most difficult” and the Russians do not intend to stop despite the losses. However, security guarantees are needed, he continued, to guarantee the Ukrainians “who will not repeat an attack”.
Russia did not send signals showing that it wants peace, it is stated by the French President, Emmanuel Macron. Russia, he added, “continue to kill and destroy”. Speaking of security guarantees, Macron noted that these cannot be established without a discussion including Ukraine and the European allies. “Safety guarantees cannot be discussed without Ukraine and its European allies, as they also concern European security,” he said.
KALLAS “PUO’ ESSERE UNA SETTIMANA CRUCIALE PER LA DIPLOMAZIA”
“This could be a crucial workweek for diplomacy: intense talks continue to end the war in Russia. All welcome the push for peace, except Russia. In this war, there is an aggressor and a victim. Our task is to do everything possible to support the victim and not to reward the aggressor. The goal is to achieve a just and lasting peace, not an agreement that prepares the ground for a forthcoming war.” Thus the High Representative of the EU Kaja Kallas, at the end of the Defense Council, according to which “a solid funding for Ukraine is fundamental. Today the Ministers insisted on the need to urgently agree on financing options. Multiannual funding would be a turning point for the defence of Ukraine. A stronger Ukraine means a faster end of Putin’s war, because first Putin will realize that he cannot survive us, before this war will end. Our work to build consensus and funding continues. The risks must be shared, this is very clear: the December European Council will be crucial to this.”.
Kallas stressed that ministers also discussed “an increase in our military support for Ukraine. Europe has already provided Ukraine with over 187 billion, more than anyone else. We must continue to intensify our efforts. The logic is very simple: the more Ukraine is strong on the battlefield, the stronger it is at the negotiating table. We also discussed what our two missions could do more to strengthen Ukraine. They are part of the European Union’s support for Security Guarantees. We aim to conclude planning for extending missions as soon as possible.”.
Finally, with regard to industrial cooperation with Ukraine on defence, “we discussed how to mobilise further private funding, even through the Bei. Europe and Ukraine must build together, produce together and innovate together. It’s an advantageous situation for both sides. Ukraine has an experience in the battlefield, and we also need it for our defense industry. I am pleased that a greater number of Member States are moving in this sense,” Kallas concluded.
“Today there was an important and constructive confrontation, that of the Foreign Affairs Council, to reaffirm the central role of the EU Member States, for the idea of a common European defence ever more solid, efficient and effective. We have highlighted the need to valorise the missions of our existing foreign quotas, avoiding duplication and
to involve other partner nations. Finally, we stressed that, for an increasingly strong and integrated European defence industry, it is increasingly necessary to standardize the requirements and capacities, stimulating competition and competitiveness of our industries. Our support for Ukraine and NATO and EU initiatives remains unchanged,” said Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
