BEIRUT (LIBANON) (ITALPRESS) – Last Lebanese day for Pope Leo who is visiting the operators and assistants of the De la Croix hospital in Jal and Dibl, one of the largest mentally disabled hospitals in the Middle East, about 11 kilometers from Beirut.

“We cannot forget the most fragile, we cannot imagine a society that runs at full speed, clinging to the false myths of well-being, ignoring so many situations of poverty and fragility,” said the Pope in greeting to operators and assistants of the hospital de la Croix.

“In particular – he added – we Christians are called to take care of the poor, asks us the Gospel and the cry of the poor, who also passes through Scripture, asks us.” Addressing himself “to the brothers marked by the disease”, then he said: “You are in the heart of God.”.

The visit of Pope Leo XIV in Lebanon ends today with a seafront Mass in Beirut, after a prayer in the port of the Lebanese capital, devastated in August 2020 by a powerful explosion cost life to 218 people. It is expected that the pontiff encounters some family members of the victims of the explosion caused by hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate jammed in a warehouse of the port. Hundreds and hundreds of faithful are coming to the place of the celebration. Yesterday the Pope presided over a gathering of Christian and Muslim spiritual leaders in Lebanon, celebrating the interreligious coexistence of the country as a powerful message of peace in the region afflicted by conflicts.
