Disability, Mattarella “Inclusion enriches the whole community”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The Constitution guarantees to every woman and man, without exception, the exercise of their rights. It is, often, an arduous path, especially for too many people with disabilities, who live conditions of loneliness and marginalization. It happens in everyday life, in the streets of our countries and cities, in families, in school, in public services, in workplaces.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities.

“Prejudices and stereotypes hinder full participation in community life and the value of their talents. Families face enormous challenges – the head of the state continues –. Ritardi, dinieghi, unreasonable complications, aggravate the economic, organizational and emotional weight of the care of people with disabilities, sometimes afflicted by abuse and mistreatment as well as discrimination. It is a wound for the whole community and it must be sheltered with appropriate policies and choices. The inclusion enriches the whole community, contributes to authentic and shared social progress, in which people with disabilities are not considered a burden, but full members of the common life, to which they are called to take part with the abilities they are endowed.”.
