Piazza di Siena wins the Italian Tourism Award 2025 in the category “Great Events”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Ippico International Competition of Piazza di Siena, which in 2026 will celebrate its centenary, received the Italian Tourism Award 2025, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, in the category “Great Events”. A prestigious award that emphasizes the excellence of an event that has become a global point of reference for equestrian sports, as well as a symbol of Italian sport elegance.

Marco Di Paola, President Fise, expresses his satisfaction: “This award is the fruit of teamwork, vision and shared ideals. Phases and Sport and Health have shown that only by joining forces are extraordinary results. The idea, born in 2018, has transformed Piazza di Siena into a model of sport excellence and integration between sport, territory, cultural heritage and environment. The 2026 edition will be an opportunity to celebrate a unique story, looking to the future with even more ambition.” To withdraw the award, in the evocative setting of the César Ritz hall of The St. Regis Rome, was the Secretary General of Fise, Simone Perillo, who has marked the international value of the event: “Piazza di Siena has the same value as Wimbledon in the panorama of equestrian sports. Next year will be special, with the celebration of the 100 years of the competition. Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality, the Region, Sport and Health and the Coni, we are carrying out an extraordinary work. Our mission is to leave Villa Borghese more beautiful every year than we found it, and we are succeeding”.

If 2025 recorded a record edition, the “Green Project”, launched in 2018, marked a historic turning point, transforming the Ippico Competition into a model of sustainability and enhancement of the territory. Thanks to an innovative bioarchitecture project and the use of sustainable materials, the event has returned to be an example of harmony between sport and the environment. The return of the lawn in the Oval, the removal of silica sand and the constant maintenance of the area are only some of the interventions that have returned Piazza di Siena to the city, creating a greener, more beautiful and more accessible space. The restoration of the ancient forums, the recovery of the Galoppatoio area and the improvement of the green are only some of the actions that have contributed to make Piazza di Siena a place not only of sport, but also of meeting and socialization for citizens and tourists. In this process, the event has become a centre of culture and art, with exhibitions and initiatives celebrating the historical and artistic heritage of Rome. There are also ecological projects such as interventions to protect the Eastern Platanes to protect the environment and biodiversity.

Thanks to the investments of recent years, Piazza di Siena has become a green gym in the open sky, available to all, for sports and recreational activities, while the resources of the Competition have also been used for the restoration of the exhibition of Acqua Felice and for the recovery of the historical “Fontana dei Pupazzi”. Piazza di Siena is not only an event, it is a project that leaves a lasting legacy: a heritage that goes beyond sports competition, embracing culture, the environment and the community. With the centenary at the doors, the event prepares to write a new chapter of its history, continuing to combine tradition, innovation and love for the territory.
