Sequestered 248 kg of cocaine at the port of Gioia Tauro

REGGIO CALABRIA (ITALPRESS) – The Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria and the Office of the Agency of Customs and Monopolies of Gioia Tauro have seized, at the joyful port, a further match of pure cocaine of 248 kilograms. The operation is part of a more complex and articulated intensification of inspections and controls, for this last glimpse of the year, on the whole harbour area, with the purpose of identifying, among the thousands of containers enlivened daily, those used by criminal sodalizi to import the narcotic.

In particular, the soldiers of the Gioia Tauro Group and the staff of the Agency of Customs and Monopoli, in the context of controls aimed at intercepting any loads of astounding substance managed by organized crime, have selected and subjected to accurate inspections two containers, coming from the countries of overseas, which transported, respectively, used vehicles and sesame bags. Specifically, the locked containers were first scanned by radiogen, using the scanner equipment supplied to the Agency of Customs and Monopolies, and then an accurate inspection with the help of the cinofile units in force to the Group of the Finance Guard of Gioia Tauro. At the end of the inspections, 217 bakers of cocaine were discovered and seized, for a total weight of 248 kilograms, which were skillfully hidden inside the container, in an attempt to overcome the network of the customs and police controls prepared near the harbour area of Gioia Tauro. This is the new result achieved in the fight against the international traffic of drugs at the port of Gioia Tauro, which prevented the distribution on the spacing markets of a game of cocaine that could have yielded to criminal organizations a considerable income, estimated in approximately 40 million euros. In the current year the seizure of narcotics at the port of Gioia Tauro, amounting to about 4,8 tons, have already exceeded the corresponding figure of 2024.
