ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Russia will never change its position on its own. He wants, and he always wanted, the total occupation of our state and, of course, the end of our independence. This has always been his goal. It is an extremely difficult time for us, so the pressure of sanctions and the reduction of financial resources are so important. If Moscow has no money it will be forced to stop.” This is said by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in response to the questions asked by the Press during an exchange with some international media.
The solution on the node of territorial sovereignty? “The fairest possible” is to “freeze the front line”. It is “a valid principle for the contact line that crosses all regions of Ukraine. As for diplomacy, this is the time of the ceasefire, but also the moment that should mark the end of the war. In the Donbass, the Russians would remain in the temporarily occupied parts of the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, we in the part of the Donbass that we still control.”.
Zelensky believes “it is essential that our authorities maintain control over the part of the Donbass that they administer today. It is a necessary compromise though, in principle, the Russian presence on the rest of the territory is unfair and illegal. Moscow has placed an ultimatum, asking for the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from all territories of both oblasts, especially from Donetsk. We have explained to our American interlocutors that Ukraine cannot accept it, even because it would be a violation of our Constitution.”
